On July 15, 2017, your SAG-AFTRA National Board overwhelmingly approved and recommended a YES vote for the TV/Theatrical tentative agreement reached with the AMPTP. Eligible SAG-AFTRA members will receive a postcard in the coming days on how to vote electronically or by paper ballot on the proposed successor agreements covering motion pictures, scripted primetime dramatic television and new media production.

Portland Local members show their cards at their spring membership meeting on May 16, where members discussed the past year’s victories and challenges and planned for the future. SAG-AFTRA members are excited about the new productions coming to Portland and the recent renewal of the Oregon film incentive and Green Light program.

Members of SAG-AFTRA Portland Local met on a Saturday morning in April, in order to build union solidarity while giving back to their community.

“Our members packaged 7,850 pounds of food at the Oregon Food Bank for the community’s hungriest folks,” said Portland Local President Duane Hanson. “This was Portland’s fourth annual team-building community service event, which shines a bright light on organized labor.”

SAG-AFTRA member and voiceover coach Leonard Dozier held a sold-out voice acting workshop on Oct. 2 at Portland’s Black Diamond Studios. Themed a “big tent” event, for union and pre-members alike, the course was an introduction to the skills required to work, and the nuts and bolts of breaking in to the business. Dozier reported afterwards that it was one of the best groups of actors he had ever taught; they exhibited professionalism and interest, and posed “whip-smart” questions during the Q&A. Members from the Oregon Media Production Association were also in attendance.

The Portland Local recently held an inspiring TV/Theatrical wages and working conditions meeting in advance of our critical negotiations, discussing our concerns and challenges working here in Oregon. We generated several fine proposals, which will be passed to the national Wages & Working Conditions Committee for consideration.
