Are you curious about the working relationship between SAG-AFTRA members and independent filmmakers?  This workshop will provide actors and filmmakers an opportunity to learn and understand each other’s world.  Topics will include the history, benefits and eligibility requirements of SAG-AFTRA, an overview of our Low Budget and New Media Contracts and how regardless of the budget, there is a contract that will allow filmmakers to use SAG-AFTRA talent in their project.

The New Orleans Local jumped into action after the recent historic flooding that took place in Louisiana. Longtime SAG-AFTRA member Jackie Harris called Second Harvest Food Bank to find out what was needed. Lorraine LeBlanc came up with a theme, which became the Cash and Cans get-together on Sept. 14. Member Outreach Chair Olga Wilhelmine reserved a space at a neighborhood restaurant, Rendon Inn, where stunt performers regularly gather.

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation is now accepting submissions from filmmakers residing in all states west of the Mississippi for its April 2017 Los Angeles Short Film Showcase. SUBMISSION DEADLINE is Monday, February 6, 2017. No deadline waiver.

The SAG-AFTRA New Orleans Conservatory will be presenting the first Scene to Screen event on Jan. 4. Local Board member George Sanchez has adapted his novel Lit by Lightning for the screen. The story is about an actor who returns to New Orleans to investigate his father’s suspicious death. His quest takes him from the docks to an Irish Channel bar to a Bourbon Street drag show. A beautiful blonde stage manager complicates his task.
