The Independent Film Initiative is a program of the Chicago Film Office and the city of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events designed to retain, promote and provide career-enhancing opportunities for local film industry professionals and media makers. Its goal is to create a more sustainable and robust independent film industry in Chicago.

The Independent Film Initiative promotes Chicago's independent film community. It is composed of three branches: a filmmaker-in-residence program, a production apprenticeship and screenings of short films made in Chicago.

Has your friend asked you to be in their next web series? Do you enjoy working with local filmmakers on short and ultra low budget productions? Are you making your own short, feature or webisode?

All of these require that the production be under a union contract. If you work on these type of productions and want more information on your rights, how to flip a non-union production into a union production or what the paperwork looks like, then this is a must-attend event for you.

When: 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16

Start: 08/02/2016 - 1:00am
End: 08/02/2016 - 3:00am

Jim Dougherty will present his self-taping workshop on Aug. 1.

This workshop will be a refresher for those who attended the last one with additional new material - and a great opportunity for those just learning to self-tape as well.

You will be empowered to make your setup great!

Topics include:

- Lighting on a budget

- Backgrounds and clothing to make you stand out

- Utilizing your existing equipment

- Getting great sound and capturing great video

- Using editing software

Start: 06/21/2016 - 1:00am
End: 06/21/2016 - 3:00am

How does a headshot get you auditions? What are clients looking for? How do you know if your headshot is getting you called in or left in the pile?

Ask the people who know. Casting Director David O'Connor and Talent Agent Marisa Paonessa will tell you what works in this market. Then photographer, Joshua Albanese will explain how to get it. They will personally critique any headshot you hand them so bring your current headshots.

When: 6 - 8 p.m., Monday, June 20
